I dunno… in 19th century Italy (when this painting was made (The Confession (Molteni))), a Catholic priest might have called this a “bodily perversion” in order to extract a fee for an Indulgence, especially if the priest believed it would be an habitual occurance.
if my art degree is worth anything, its for parsing the moral value of a meme (and booby Italian toast fetishes) in its historic context!

I’m surprised the painting is so old, for some reason the woman’s hairstyle looked fairly modern to me
Edit: nevermind I looked at a higher res image. I was confusing parts of her veil as hair bangs
