Boomers routinely got a dime or a quarter from relatives for just showing up and giving aunts and uncles a hug. In 1960, you could get two comic books and a candy for 25 cents. A family reunion was an occasion to achieve untold riches.
These days there’s less hugging, less loot and less happiness all around!
I guess my extended family was poor, I have never experienced this. And I’m not quite that old, grew up in the 70s. The most I got for allowance was .0.25/week but there were a ton of weeks where it was zero.
