I specifically add my location to the search when im looking for local stuff otherwise I want international results. So on google I’d search bottle store but on ddg I search bottle store auckland [suburb] because it doesnt know where i am. Or I use the !maps bang to search on google maps.
Really? For some reason, I really prefer DDG’s results over Google’s. Too much SEO spam for Google now (especially with AI).
DDG has this Reddit+ stack overflow thing that I quite like!
For generic factual stuff, I default to wikipedia. For opinions, it tends to be Reddit/Lemmy. If I have questions that are more of “tell me why my understanding of XYZ is wrong”, then LLMs (the big ones) tend to be quite useful (yeah yeah, hate on me for this as much as you want).
I haven’t had much problems with it? Can’t really remember the last time I felt the need to try a different backup search engine. And, usually, if I did, I wouldn’t find what I was looking for there, either.
Duck duck go is made a LOT better if you specify a date range before SEO became as stupid as it did. AIslop just made the seo bullshit articles/pages go from bad to fubar.
I love the idea of duckduckgo but man the results suck
Starpage, Qwant, and Brave search are all out there, just waiting for you.
Ddg results are so good. I dont get the hate on them. I try to go back to Google and the results are unusable.
DDg for me is annoying because it isn’t localised when I search something.
That’s my own fault though for not sharing my location.
I use it for everything
Ddg has a dropdown for your country

Just try ducai
It’s extra funny because DDG is (mostly) Bing.
Its come along way since being mostly bing
Oh, so it’s great at porn then

Yeah I didn’t like DDG either. Kagi is worth the price to have a better google-free experience,

It’s Google ten years ago, which was already shit. They need to go further back on the timeline.
I caved and switched when Google started giving me a full large chat window (not even just a small AI overview) by default when I ran a search.
If you dont want any ai switch over to noai.duckduckgo.com took me to long to see that it exsists.
I meant even I switched from Google to DuckDuckGo. DDG asks you about whether and how often you want AI answers
And they show ads too.
Sadly, this is my experience too
Brave search over ddg
Brave owns an ad company. I trust them as much as I trust Google.
Sure but duck duck go is bing with a proxy and has been known in the past to make acceptions for microsoft
Brave search is a fully independed search engine
At the if the day both services are closed source software from for profit companies
