But the worst case scenario for some reason be if nothing bad comes of it and I tell people that, no? Folks got no tolerance for anyone not doing anything the way they decided was most correct back when they were in their twenties.
There’s a time approaching pretty quickly when people still using shit products from bad companies will have to decide for themselves how to go about navigating hostile brand/consumer relationships and it would be mildly cool to look at that objectively and not get moralized at for it. Which is a weird as hell thing to have to say to the Linux guy

But you shouldn’t recommend that other people do the same things as you if you’re engaging in unsafe behavior.
The top level comment that spawned this was recommending that people use Group Policy and modify their registry values to fully disable automatic updates:
Just go through regedit and group policy settings for anything that feels like it’s going to update windows and disable it.
This whole time, in basically every post, I’ve had to repeatedly say that I am, by no means at all, defending Microsoft. I am condemning bad advice.

What nuance? You’ve been outside the ecosystem for so long you think black hats are writing code to get to offline domestic machines and not just starting up a call center or hiring on with their local government.
