On machines where you start Steam manually in order to play a game, do you keep Steam running in the background after play session is over? Meaning if you no longer play any game for the moment, and just keep it running to be ready. Or do you close Steam, after the play session?

Well there are couple of reasons why people autostart it. For one, there is this social aspect of seeing who is on and not, or getting notifications when a friend starts playing. Or having Steam right there to start a game without waiting couple of seconds to load Steam first.

Also to get updates, so a game is already updated when you go to play it.

I don’t normally leave it running, but I might leave it running to let all the updates happen since i might not have run it in months. Then I might forget about it and leave it running for a day of two.

I mean that’s nice, none of it really appeals to me, but it doesn’t really seem relevant to the question which specifically mentioned on devices where you manually start Steam.

You asked why you would want do that, and I just gave you reasons why there are valid reasons. And how is this not relevant to the question? My answer is relevant, because someone may decide to close or leave it, because of the social aspects. This is only relevant to machines where you specifically manually start Steam or have it autostart.

I’m sorry did you not read my comment. The question was for people who manually start their Steam do you leave it on. You’re talking about Auto starting. You don’t get how it’s not relevant? Also what is them being valid have to do with anything? I said that’s nice but they don’t appeal to me. I didn’t say they weren’t valid. You didn’t read my comment and you didn’t read the op before responding to anything it seems like.

Why is the social aspect of leaving it on not relevant? You logic makes no sense. Someone can start Steam manually and keep it for the reasons of social aspect on, instead closing it. This has nothing to do with Autostart, what even are you talking about?

Someone can start manually or autostart. That is independent of the reason to close it or not. And one of the reason not to close it are social aspects of Steam. This is relevant to your question why you would want do that. I just listed a reason why people leave it on after they start it manually.

What the fuck are you even talking about? Are you a bot? There’s no way you keep missing this. You’re the one that brought up auto start. I never did. Because the question specifically asked if you don’t use auto start. So when you brought up auto start I told you it wasn’t relevant . What’s not connecting here?

Have you reading comprehension problems? You asked me for reason and I explained it to you. Social is a reason not to close the program. Please read again instead wasting peoples time. I just answered your question. No need to play dumb. It doesn’t matter if you auto start or not, leaving Steam on for social is always a reason to do it.

You asked why one would do that, and I explained it. Why do you even ask if you don’t care the answer? Nobody said you have to do it. Are you somehow dense?

I said like three replies ago it didn’t appeal to me. You’re the one that keeps harping on it. You could have just let it go when I said I wasn’t interested. Now you want me to be responsive to your stupid argument?

Yes, and I just answered to your question.

                    1. Why would I or anyone do that?
                    2. Me listing the reasons.
                    3. I don’t care the reasons.
                    4. Me okay I just answered your question. Why do you ask if you don’t even care?

                    Are you dense?
