I could have my desk face towards the direction of the door, such that I can better ser people coming without them sneaking behind me (wether intentional or not). But then I’d have a window behind me, which means light reflecting on the monitor. And that’s not good. Plus, more limited space for me chair, limiting movement as well when sitting down. Unless I try and rearrange my room. Idk, maybe I’ll think about it. I’d enjoy a decrease in the amount of times I have hands on keys for quick switching, be it for hiding lack of productivity or just general privacy (which in turn would allow me to more freely use my machine, without worrying about what people might find me staring at (which generally is stuff on YouTube))
Exactly, the problem isn’t I’m being naughty or whatever, it’s just that my focus can be quite irregular so I’m always either taking a mild breather (and feeling irrationally guilty about it) or hyperfocused on my work and going at 2-3x normal speed, so there’s really never a great time to surprise me.
My current setup is positioned sideways to the door and a window, because otherwise I’d have the same issue. Like so:
I personally just wanna use my computer in peace, knowing no one’s gonna catch a glimpse of my screen without any further context (especially if the context doesn’t make it much better).
The door and window of my home office are on opposite sides of the room, so putting my desk against the wall perpendicular to them puts the door on one side (so I can see if someone is coming in) and the window on the other (so I can see if someone is approaching the front door of the house).
Mine is set somewhat like that, except none of those benefits. People can sneak from behind. I could place the desk on the other side of the room, but the entrance is narrow rather than an overall square room, so I’d have the desk on the way in, essentially. At least without moving the bed. If I rearrange the bed, I guess I could find a way to make it work. Though I’d also need to move other stuff around as well. Also, if near a window, which would be the best position, out the way but also no sneaking, I could end up with sun potentially hitting the screen, in through the window, from an angle
Ah yeah it can get tricky if the room isn’t a square/rectangle. The sun does hit my window in the morning, so I just close the blinds until around 9:30 AM when it’s high enough.
